No More Architects and Cowboys, Please!

Posted in Random Thoughts, Tech, Uncategorized at 4:49 am by Liv About Liviu Tudor

I’ve read recently Dustin’s post “Software Architects Need Not Apply” (and in fact was very pleasantly pleased to see that JavaWorld has republished it on their site!) and I felt the subject needs a few words from me too (as always! :) ).

I think Dustin made a valid point there : “those who can, code, those who can’t, architect” — and this definitely covers a certain segment of the population in the software creation industry, however, there’s a bit more to it. If your architect is worth any money, yes, he comes up with a design — but unless the managerial structure around him allows him to, he shouldn’t be able to bulldoze that through to your product, right? Of course you trust your architect (otherwise why would you hire him?) but I bet you trust your developers too, right? So while your architect’s job is to come up with a design, it’s not his job to decide whether that is the final production-ready architecture!

Exhibition artisticlab.org in Bucharest

Posted in Blogroll, Fun Time, News, Photos, Romania, Uncategorized at 5:51 am by Liv About Liviu Tudor

On Tuesday, 22nd of May 2012, artisticlab had an exhibition in Bucharest. Unfortunately, being in California and all that, I wasn’t there for the live event, but I am lucky enough to be the receiver of some of the photos taken at launch.

As to be expected, this was very well received by the public, so for those of you in Bucharest, the photos are old news I guess — for those of you who didn’t get to it though, here’s a sneak peek of what we missed. (I’m not sure if I need to point out that my sister and her husband are behind the artisticlab ? You might remember them from their experiments with focAR — in London and otherwise?)

The theme for the exhibition was the increase in the minimum salary from 650 RON/month to 700 RON/month and the impact in every day life this had. Anyway, here are the pictures:

Joe Bloggs and Google

Posted in Fun Time, News, Photos, Random Thoughts, Tech, Uncategorized at 1:24 pm by Liv About Liviu Tudor

So I keep being amazed every day by top search results in Google — obviously generated by Joe (Dumbass) Bloggs :) This occurred to me today when I was trying to search for running certain scripts in bash (Linux) and I ended up typing just “how to r” — and this is what good ole’ Google came up with top searches as per below:

I bet you didn’t know you could find out from Google how to roll a joint :D

Here Come the Men in Black!

Posted in Blogroll, Fun Time, News, Photos, Rugby, Uncategorized at 8:55 pm by Liv About Liviu Tudor

I’ve just watched an amazing victory by Saracens this weekend where they took the game right from under London Wasps noses in the very last minutes of the game. After leading throughout the whole game 12-9 based on penalty kicks (well done, Glen Jackson! ;) Wasps managed to score a try with about 3 minutes left from the game and thought they belted another victory… Only to find out that straight away — and I mean literally straight away — Saracens scored a try back with just a minute left of the game and won — woohoo!!!

Here’s some pictures from the second half, when The Men In Black make their entrance on the pitch:
