Exhibition artisticlab.org in Bucharest

On Tuesday, 22nd of May 2012, artisticlab had an exhibition in Bucharest. Unfortunately, being in California and all that, I wasn’t there for the live event, but I am lucky enough to be the receiver of some of the photos taken at launch.

As to be expected, this was very well received by the public, so for those of you in Bucharest, the photos are old news I guess — for those of you who didn’t get to it though, here’s a sneak peek of what we missed. (I’m not sure if I need to point out that my sister and her husband are behind the artisticlab ? You might remember them from their experiments with focAR — in London and otherwise?)

The theme for the exhibition was the increase in the minimum salary from 650 RON/month to 700 RON/month and the impact in every day life this had. Anyway, here are the pictures:

Eastern Europe to the Untrained (Read “Ignorant”) Eye

This morning on the way to Heathrow I couldn’t help overhearing a conversation going on in between 2 (what they thought they were) “proper Londoners” about the “invasion of Eastern Europe”. It went upon the lines of how these bloody Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Romanian came and took over London and that’s not right. Coincidentally, I was heading to Heathrow to catch a flight to Bucharest. (To all of you mothertruckers out there who don’t know this, that is the capital of Romania – which by the way it is not to be confused with Budapest, as that’s aaaaaall the way in Hungary ok?) Anyway, I felt compelled to listen to the conversation going on and having reached Heathrow, checked in, security done and all that comes with it, I feel I need to clarify once and for all a few facts about Eastern Europe. To be more precise, one thing that I want to make absolutely clear is the geographical positioning of Eastern Europe! Because it transpired to me that really the term “Eastern Europe” has actually lost its actual meaning in favour of “the shite part of Europe”.

(More) Idiotic Recruitment

I’ve posted before about idiotic recruitment and having had some time to organise (read delete) some of my LinkedIn emails I came across this old one. So I decided that I’m going to start posting here every single bit of idiotic recruitment emails I’m getting — if there are people occasionally reading this then they’ll learn in time to steer clear of such morons: if you’re a candidate, the last thing you want is to be headhunted by a useless prick who will represent you to a company and potentially lose you the opportunity before you even had it; and if you’re a company, you don’t want to be dealing with a stupid mothertrucker who clearly won’t have any idea who’s recruiting and will just chuck random CV’s at you. So idiot recruiters out there — beware!

2009 — Bad Year? No Way!!!

It’s coming to the end of 2009 (only 3 days away really!) and as such there are a lot of people reflecting on how good or bad 2009 has been for them. Personally I wasn’t intending on doing so until a couple of days ago when I met up with an old friend who said at some point: “I hope 2010 turns out better than this year, as it’s been really s…t for me!” and then he went on to give me a few details about why he thought that was.

That made me in turn think back about 2009 — and I came to realise that it was in fact a bloody good year for me, despite what others might think!

For those of you who didn’t know, I parted with my previous employer a few days before Christmas 2008 — and at the time I think everyone thought that this would be a fatal blow to me. (Truth being told, there have been a few moments when I thought similarly!) The future was to prove us all wrong it seems!
