I’ve written before on my blog about ShareThis — I do love their WordPress plugin and their analytics provide some interesting insights into my blog traffic. There is however a niggly little thing which has been bugging me for a while — and it’s all to do with the way their “chicklets” look. (If you’re not familiar with the ShareThis lingo, chicklets are those bubbles with numbers in them which show you how many times a certain piece of content has been shared per channel — e.g. Twitter, Facebook etc.)
If you are like me, always in a rush to produce the content rather than customize it (in other words, don’t want to spend too much time setting up your blog and want to dedicate most of the time to actually writing “stuff”), then you probably took the same steps to install the ShareThis plugin, accepted the defaults and then enable it. Trouble is if you do that, the chicklets by default don’t have a uniform/standard look, and you probably spotted different colors and styles being used — which gives the content a bit of a messy and disorganized look.

This goes out to all you ad skeptics out there who bang on about how useless the internet advertising is and how it should be banned / destroyed / 101′d etc: it is sad that not often advertising is delivered as a complement to the content being viewed, and as such it doesn’t come across as an intrusive piece on the page. However, when it happens, it creates something useful!
I have just experienced something like this just now, looking at some technical article online — and even though I worked for Vibrant Media before, there’s no hidden agenda in highlighting this ad unit I spotted as one such piece of great advertising. (I know I slagged them off in the past as well, hope they don’t take it personally : guys, I’ve slagged off Google more than you, so don’t read too much into it!

I had doubts in the past about whether my consumption of beer is getting worrying or not. I always managed to tell myself though that “it’s ok, nothing to worry about”. Until today, when out of curiosity I have checked out my Klout report — based from what I could tell on my Twittering. Well guess what, there were a few non-surprises there — in terms of who I talk to / influence / get influenced by on Twitter; apparently I’m a “socializer” as well (wow!) who is “the hub of the social scene” — whatever the fuck that means
But most worryingly … I am influential about BEER
Right, that does it — gotta stop drinking beer! Switching to wine methinks
See the original Klout report below — quite funny actually

I saw this and thought it was dead funny, so apologies to those of you who already saw it already on some … social networking sites (ironically enough!) — but this is what the future will look like when the YouTube, facebook and Twitter merge:

I’ve been prompted recently by a few with regards to my recent blog entries as it became apparent that I’m blogging a lot and very often recently. It’s not because all of a sudden I find myself with so much more time on my hands – if anything my schedule has become busier nowadays! – but rather the fact that as I signalled previously in my blog, I have finally installed a WordPress app on my BlackBerry which allows me to blog “offline” now on my way to and from work. I used to reserve this time for twittering (yup, I got a twitter app on my BlackBerry as well!) – however that only works if you got a signal (call to mobile developers out there – myself included: how about writing a twitter app which saves your tweets locally then sends them in a batch when you get a network signal?) Which meant every time I was underground my twittering had to stop.
The WordPress app however allows me to save my posts as drafts on my mobile and post them later on – so I can write them on the underground and when I come out the other end I can simply post them to my blog! All of a sudden a boring journey becomes productive in terms of my blogging!
